Appeal for Donations for Victims of Violence and Displacement in Manipur | NFIW

A three-member delegation of NFIW visited the crisis gripped state of Manipur to conduct a fact-finding exercise. People of all communities have grossly and adversely been affected by the violence since 3rd of May 2023.

There has been a massive loss of life and property. As with any crisis, women and children are the first and worst victims of violence. The government for all practical purposes seems to have withdrawn from their constitutional and moral duty towards the citizenry of the state. During our visit to the various relief camps, we observed that persons from 1-month-old to 80 years of age trying to survive with the barest resources. They are surviving on the very basic and meagre amount of dal and rice twice a day, every day irrespective of their health condition and need for a better, nutritious, and supplementary diet which if the government wished it could easily provide. Access to even primary health care is absent. The camps also have numerous pregnant and lactating women who are struggling with the health of their infants and themselves. There is also a massive paucity of clean drinking water which is further deepening the health crisis. Women are also struggling with menstrual health in the absence of sanitary napkins and even soaps.

NFIW appeals to all fellow citizens to come forth and stand in solidarity with
the people of Manipur. We appeal to you to kindly contribute to the relief
efforts. Herewith we are putting down a list of things identified that are required on an urgent basis. Those who are unable to contribute with these materials may also contribute monetarily to the account given below.

Ready-to-eat food like biscuits, dry fruits, and nuts, milk powder, Nutrela,
ORS powder, vitamins, basic medicines, balms, sanitary napkins, NEW
undergarments, lungi, T-shirts, underskirts/petticoats, bed sheets, mosquito
nets, flasks. They also need food items like masoor dal, rice, potato, etc
