An autocrat can really unhinge a democratic system. This is what President Donald Trump is doing. But he is also turning the US into an imperialist power. India has had a good understanding with America and the two democracies, one the strongest and the other the largest, have ambled their way through in the chaotic world.
President Trump has reportedly asked India to stop importing oil from Iran. New Delhi has explained that India has reportedly told Washington that it has entered into a (…)

Killings of Our Times!
15 July 2018, by Humra QuraishiMUSINGS
I’m left aghast at the killings taking place in developed India! If one were to focus on the state of affairs in the State of Uttar Pradesh, it is the State Police that has been indulging in killings out there in the open. State terrorism! Quoting these figures from the PUCL findings on encounters taking place in Uttar Pradesh: Since March 2017, 49 people have been killed in over 1100 encounters. More than 370 have been injured and over 3300 arrested across the State.
And those (…) -
When the Best among us Falter
15 July 2018, by T J S GeorgeIMPRESSIONS
Arun Jaitley and Piyush Goyal are the two most qualified—shall we say civilised—men in the Narendra Modi Cabinet. Both have distinguished educational backgrounds and are recognised as well-informed intellectuals. Their public careers have been impeccable. They fit naturally into refined social circles and are respected for that. Under the influence of politics, however, even such mature minds sometimes get carried away—and that is disturbing.
Was it necessary for Arun (…) -
Rehashing the ‘Divide and Rule’
15 July 2018by M.A. Sofi
The country called India is going through a great churn right now but alas, not for all the good reasons. The reference is surely to the British ploy of ‘divide and rule’ in its new avatar as an inspiration to those who are now in charge of running governments across large swathes of India. The manner in which politics is being played out both in and away from the corridors of power raises certain disturbing questions which, unless addressed, may lead to an apocalypse in the (…) -
J & K and its People are an Integral Part of India
15 July 2018by K. Narayana
The Jammu and Kashmir State is under fire since its formation. Above all, it is a sensitive region and geographically strategic place too. Any incident in Jammu and Kashmir will have its impact on national sovereignty and national security as well. The real danger to our country is not from outside or from the Opposition parties but mainly from the ruling party and its policies. India administers 43 per cent of the region—Jammu, Kashmir Valley, Ladakh and Siachen Glacier. (…) -
Alienation of Rights to Forest
15 July 2018by Suranjita Ray
Thousands of farmers led by the CPI-M-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha, marched from Nasik to Mumbai in March this year. One of the many demands of the farmers who came together included transfer of forest land to those who have been tilling it for years. Alongside demands for a complete loan waiver, implementation of the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission and increase in the compensation for the peasants who lost crops due to recent hailstorms and pink (…) -
Denudation of Forest Cover Repugnant to Government Assertion
15 July 2018by Suparna Sanyal Mukherjee
Boscage is a country’s natural phenomenon continuing since time immemorial. The areas under forest enrich geographical nomenclature along with eco-balance maintenance and consort sustainable features of the nature with natural resources.
The word forest is derived from the Latin root foris, meaning “out of doors”, and etymologically it is “a large uncultivated tract of land covered with trees and under wood”. Several scientists describe forest from their own (…) -
Statement Condemning the Attack on Advocate Sudha Bharadwaj
15 July 2018We, the undersigned, wish to place on record our utter disgust, contempt and outrage at the latest in the series of machinations by Republic TV, working to its brief as a propagandist for the ongoing crusade against all those who take public stands in defence of democracy, secularism, human rights, constitutional propriety and rule of law.
Republic TV’s latest target is Advocate Sudha Bharadwaj, National Secretary of the People’s Union for Civil Liberties, Vice-President of the Indian (…) -
Why Mommy didn’t tell me
15 July 2018Why Mommy didn’t tell me That world is full of predators I should let nobody near me Even though I’m still a Bambi
Why Daddy didn’t teach me When I was only six To be careful with every gentleman and their brother Not to mention akin
It’s not just stranger danger Or that I have yet to become a lady When the lustful beast takes over Doesn’t even care if you are a baby
It has to satisfy its hunger At the cost of a lifetime Impacts of which are heinously gruesome to reveal Shattered mind (…) -
Still Marx
15 July 2018by Jayanta Kumar Ghosal
The toiling and oppressed people all over the world are observing the bicentenary of Karl Marx, following the prediction of ‘End of History’. As days are passing the struggles for emancipation from capitalist exploitation are gaining momentum everywhere. In two Theses On Feuerbach Marx wrote—‘The philosophers have hitherto only interpreted the world. The point is to change it.’ That remains the guiding principle of the labour and socialist as well as anti-capitalist (…)
