On the week approaching World Day against Trafficking in Persons, observed on July 30th every year, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials in India were successful in foiling a human trafficking attempt by rescuing 56 women from the New Jalpaiguri-Patna Capital Express. All the women were between 18 and 31 years of age and were traveling in a group without tickets.
Another successful attempt at foiling a trafficking bid came from Telangana the same week, where thirty-six bonded labourers, including four children, were rescued from a human trafficking ring. These two different news highlights the grim reality of India, where traffickers have devised new and innovative approaches to traffic individuals and force them into exploitative situations.
