Finance Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget on Sunday, ( unusual ) 1st February 2026. This was her 9th budget presentation and by so doing she has joined the unique list of finance ministers having presented the budget multiple times. She defended her budget as being presented at a time when the country is faced with an external environment in which trade and multilateralism are imperilled and access to resources are disrupted, buying an insurance of sort against the criticism of the Opposition Parties and anslysts.
