WINGS Programme No. 48-21 [14 March 2022]

Description: Two young women with a mission to help the poor found their calling as both nuns and solar installers, bringing reliable electricity to communities where the electric grid is absent, or expensive and inconsistent. Doubly unusual in a primarily male-dominated Muslim society, they have persisted in sharing education, skills and technology with those who can use those things to progress in their lives.

Host(s): Laura Palmisano, Frieda Werden

Featured Speakers/Guests: Loretto Sisters from Pakistan, Samina Iqbal and Maria Daniel, interviewed while in Colorado for advanced studies at Solar Energy International. Sisters Samina Iqbal and Maria Daniel are Pakistanis who chose to join the US-based Sisters of Loretto. Now trained to install and trouble-shoot solar electric equipment, they help people overcome the unreliability of the local electric grid to run lights, electric fans, and more. Their order has been highly supportive as they chose and pursued their life’s work.
