June 5, 2024
The people of India have rejected Narendra Modi's majoritarian Hindu politics. Even if Modi's coalition returns him to power, his message has to change.
Despite his reluctance to concede defeat, the results of the Indian general election are a major setback for outgoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His party, the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP), has failed to secure a majority on its own.
The BJP has heavily lost ground in its traditional stronghold states of Uttar Pradesh, (…)

March 24, 2024
The Rohingya, a Muslim minority from Myanmar persecuted and run out of their homeland, face a perilous future.
Last week, dozens of Rohingya refugees drowned after a wooden boat they were travelling in capsized off Indonesia's Aceh province. About 69 refugees were saved by local fishermen and Indonesian rescue services.
Survivors reported that the boat carried 150 refugees and at least 50 were feared dead. However, those who were rescued faced the wrath of the local (…)

February 4, 2024
The Pakistan Army manipulates the election process to get a friendly government in place.
Pakistan, undergoing a dire economic crisis, will hold its national election on February 8.
The election process is being choreographed by the Pakistan Army through a caretaker government. It has weakened democratic institutions to such an extent that it continues to influence policy even when not directly in power.
This general election will be no exception.

All eyes are on the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to the US from 26 October.
Wang Yi's visit, ostensibly to reciprocate the visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Beijing in June, takes place in the run-up to the Asia-Pacific Summit in San Francisco which kicks off on 11 November.
There are expectations that US President Joe Biden will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping there.
China has not yet confirmed Xi's visit to the annual APEC Summit.
However, both (…)
