TRIBUTE
On March 29, 2016, Professor Charusita Chakravarty, one of the leading women scientists of India, was no more. She was not even 52 when she died in Delhi. Her life was snatched after her brave fight against cancer for around four years, taking classes, when she could, braving pain with a smile and finally succumbing after so many determined recoveries. She leaves behind an academic husband, Professor Ram Ramaswamy, a young bright daughter Krithi and a dazed mother Lalita (…)

TRIBUTE
On September 26, 2012 at the ripe age of 97, veteran theatre critic Ramesh Chander, popu-larly known as ‘Charlie', died in the Capital after a prolonged illness. With his death, India lost one of its oldest critics while Delhi definitely lost its grand old man of theatre criticism, a man who had over 70 years of writing to his credit. To understand Charlie one has to understand his times—and, of course, the wide canvas of his hectic life. He grew up during the British Raj. As a (…)

TRIBUTE
I would like to believe in something, Something beyond the death that undid you. I would like to describe the intensity With which, already overwhelmed, We longed in those days to be able To walk together once again Free beneath the sun.
—Primo Levi, Collected Poems
At the roof-top, open air auditorium of the Delhi Union of Journalists, on November 19, 2011, while a gentle breeze blew, an inner circle of friends—writers, publishers, reporters, press workers, peace activists, (…)

It was Friday, August 3, amidst the cacophony of a variety of sounds in busy Karolbagh, in a small apartment, with a few books, very few belongings and not even a phone, leave alone a car, a small modest man, a common person's editor lay peacefully in deep sleep. The small apartment, the quietness and modesty of the family and the discipline were reminiscent of that seemingly small but giant colossus, an editor who inspired but did not roar, an editor who seldom surrendered his viewpoints, (…)

Tribute
(This article, sent to us quite sometime back, could not be used earlier for unavoidable reasons. It is now being belatedly published as a token of our tribute to the immortal Palestinian poet. —Editor)
Mahmoud Darwish, the poet who sang with Arafat and who gave voice to Palestinian visions of statehood, and helped craft their 1988 declaration of independence, is no more. He died on August 9, 2008 and was given his final send off on August 12, 2008. He was 67 years. Many may (…)
