About a month or two back I came to know that my niece, a patient of knee pain, got relief by taking capsule of flax-seed oil (that is, linseed oil) which is highly rich in alpha linolenic acid, ALA. One of her relatives, on the basis of her own experience, had prescribed the same to her. Her regular physician also approved the same without any hesitation. Flax-seed oil capsules are not available at present in India; these are available in the USA. It may be presumed that at a certain stage (…)

”The whole value of Marxism seems to me to be in its absence of dogmatism, mode of approach and its attitude to action... The success or failure of Russian social experiments does not directly affect the validity of the Marxian theory.” —Jawaharlal Nehru1
During 1989-91 the USSR and its satellite socialist countries of East Europe collapsed like a house of cards without any resistance either from their peoples, rather with their active support. Machinations of the capitalist world had also (…)

COMMUNICATION
R.M. Pal in his article “Was Partition in India Inevitable?” in the Independence Day Special of Mainstream (August 15, 2009) observed that “Jinnah did not want India to be partitioned”. (page 49) He quoted M. N. Roy to support his case. But Roy was also quoted as having referred to Jinnah's declaration: “I have won Pakistan for you. Now do what you can do with it.” That declaration establishes the opposite.
From 1940 onward at the grassroot level, the burden of the (…)

“Do not judge me by my actions, do not judge me from man's point of view. Judge me from God's—by the hidden purpose behind my actions. ” – Fidel Castro (Mainstream, November 29, 2008)
The editorial entitled “Moral Victory for Evicted Peasantry” (Mainstream, September 13, 2008) gives unqualified and blind support (and even twists facts to support) the objectives and virulent agitation of the Trinamul Congress under the leadership of its supremo—Mamata Banerjee—for the (…)

DISCUSSION
CPI leader and former Union Agriculture Minister Chaturanan Mishra, in his article “Need to Redefine Socialism after the Collapse of the Soviet Union” (Mainstream, Annual 2007), called for a discussion on the subject. D.G. Bokare's “Defining Socialism” (Mainstream, March 22, 2008) was the first contribution to the debate. The following are two more contributions.	-—Editor
The proposal by the editor, Mainstream, to have a discussion on the matter of the article entitled “Need (…)
